Journal of Quantum Electronics

Information for Authors

THE IEEE JOURNAL OF QUANTUM ELECTRONICS is dedicated to the publication of manuscripts reporting novel experimental or theoretical results in the broad field of the science and technology of quantum electronics. Published monthly by the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, the Journal comprises original contributions, both regular papers and letters, describing significant advances in the understanding of quantum electronics phenomena or the demonstration of new devices, systems, or applications. Manuscripts reporting new developments in systems and applications must emphasize quantum electronics principles below one millimeter (i.e., in the submillimeter, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, etc., regions). Whether the focus of a manuscript is a quantum electronic device or phenomenon, the critical factor in the editorial review of a manuscript is the potential impact of the results presented on continuing research in the field or on advancing the technological base of quantum electronics. Other characteristics (such as clarity of presentation are also important by the overriding consideration is significance. It is not sufficient for a paper to be technically correct. Also, papers reporting improvements in the performance of well-known systems or devices by clever electronics or mechanical engineering do not fall within the scope of JQE. It is expected that contributions to the Letters section will normally be published within six months of submission. In a cover letter to the Editor-in-Chief, authors must specifically request consideration of the manuscript as a Quantum Electronics Letter and briefly describe the significance of the research that merits publication in the Quantum Electronics Letters section. Tutorial and review papers are by invitation only.

Copyright

It is the policy of the IEEE to own the copyright to the technical contributions it publishes on behalf of the interest of the IEEE, its authors, and their employers, and to facilitate the appropriate reuse of this material by others. To comply with the U.S. Copyright Law, authors are required to sign an IEEE copyright transfer form before publication. This form, a copy of which appears in each January  issue of this JOURNAL, returns to authors and their employers full rights to reuse their material for their own purposes. Page Charges

After a manuscript has been accepted for publication, the author's company or institution will be requested to pay a charge of $110 per printed page to cover part of the cost of publication. In addition, overlength paper charges of $220 per printed page are mandatory for each page or part thereof over eight. Payment of page charges (first eight pages only) for this IEEE JOURNAL, like those journals of other professional societies, is not a prerequisite for publication. The author will receive 100 free reprints (without covers) if the page charge is honored. Detailed instructions will accompany the page proofs.
