IEEE offers strategic research and planning services to IEEE staff, societies, and organizations to ensure that business decisions are made with the aid of sound information and to better serve existing and future IEEE members and customers.

Reasons for conducting research

Common reasons for conducting research include:

  • examining the needs and opinions of specific groups;
  • assessing satisfaction levels;
  • investigating new ideas;
  • evaluating outcomes;
  • measuring the effectiveness of products and services.

Coordinating your research project with IEEE

Regardless of scope, timeline, or budget, all IEEE groups should contact the IEEE Strategic Research and Planning team before beginning a research project. This coordination is important in order to:

  • Avoid "over-surveying" members
    The IEEE keeps track of all survey requests to ensure that members are not polled too frequently.
  • Make the participants' experience as pleasurable as possible
    A poorly designed questionnaire can irritate or frustrate subjects and can lead to a lack of cooperation and general dissatisfaction with IEEE.
  • Prevent duplicate studies
    It is possible the information you're looking for has already been collected or can be used to create a smarter, more in-depth survey.
  • Leverage the knowledge, expertise and experience of the IEEE Strategic Research and Planning team.
  • Protect the research dollars of IEEE and make sure business decisions are made on sound research.

Thank you to all participants

The IEEE extends its sincerest appreciation to all who have responded to questionnaires or participated in other research studies.
