As a member of IEEE you will be presented with new resources, valuable opportunities, and many discounts that will help you advance your career in the right direction.

Through IEEE, you can find colleagues who share your vision and commitment. Join the more than 400,000 members around the world who are moving technology forward today.

In the spirit of IEEE's mission to "advance technology for humanity," IEEE offers an electronic membership option with reduced dues.

Electronic membership is available to new and renewing members who reside in countries where the per capita gross national income (GNI) does not exceed US$15,000 (per Work Bank Guidelines).

What is electronic membership?

A paperless membership option

IEEE continues to work for the benefit of its members. Membership affordability is one more way IEEE can help you do more.

Less paper means less environmental impact too.

Members who join or renew and select the electronic membership option will receive an electronic copy of their membership card and membership materials. All publications, including IEEE Spectrum magazine, The Institute, and Potentials, will also be delivered digitally.

Joining with electronic membership

When you join IEEE, you'll be able to access an electronic PDF file that contains your membership card and membership materials. After you join, the publications that come with IEEE membership, including IEEE Spectrum magazine, The Institute, and Potentials, will be delivered to you digitally through IEEE Xplore, the IEEE online platform for content delivery.

New members create an IEEE Account upon joining. Your IEEE Account gives you access to all of the benefits and services of IEEE membership.

After entering your address profile, you will be presented with the option to choose electronic membership.

Be sure to select "IEEE Membership - Electronic." The default selection will be "IEEE Membership - Traditional." If you wish to receive paper materials with your membership, then you may keep this option.

Are you a student?

If you are a graduate or undergraduate student enrolled in at least a 50% course load at an accredited university, you are eligible for Student membership. Student membership by default is electronic membership.

Renewing with electronic membership

To take advantage of the electronic membership option when you renew, you will need to renew online.

Be sure your profile information is up to date. Electronic membership requires that you have a valid email address.

If you've claimed a special circumstance in the past for IEEE Membership, note that this option is not available with electronic membership. However, a special circumstance can be claimed with any additional Society memberships you have.

How to renew your electronic membership:

  1. Sign in to view your renewal quote using your IEEE Account username and password.
  2. Be sure your physical address and email address are up to date. Click "Edit" to update these sections if needed, and save your changes.
  3. Under "Special membership option," select "IEEE Membership - Electronic." Click "Save."
    - Note: If you did not choose electronic membership the prior year, then the default is "IEEE Membership - Traditional." If you wish to continue to receive print materials, keep this selection. If you had chosen Electronic Membership the previous year, then "IEEE Membership - Electronic" will be the default selection.
  4. Your cart total will update, and you can continue to make payment and complete your renewal.
