1. Overview ISAF-PFM
The 2013 International Symposium on Application of Ferroelectrics in Prague was a joint meeting with the Piezoresponse Force Microscopy and Nanoscale Phenomena in Polar Materials (PFM Workshop). The meeting started with a full-day of tutorials on the Sunday before the conference and included lectures by David Cann, Alexei Gruverman, Craig Fennie, George Rossetti, Sergei Kalinin, Seungbum Hong, Isaku Kanno and Paul Muralt. A reception party was held on the evening of the first day of the technical presentations and was extremely well attended.
The technical presentations took four full days, starting every morning with plenary presentations and awards, and continuing with three parallel sessions and two poster sessions each day. A technical session on Tuesday was dedicated to the memory of Prof. Marija Kosec.
The conference social program included several events, including a Women in Engineering Meeting, and multiple tours before and during the conference for guests and participants.
The poster session counted more than 160 presentations from the Ferroelectrics group, distributed over eight sessions. The best poster award judging was conducted during the conference, and 3 prizes for the best posters were awarded to Adam Qaisar (University of Leeds), Reagan Belan (Simon Fraser University) and Ryan Keech (Penn State). The exhibition sessions took place during the entire conference.
The conference was a significant step forward in the understanding of the underlying mechanisms and technology of ferroelectric materials, the local food and drinks definitely added to the enjoyment of the symposium and the joint conference with IUS and IFCS provided a great chance to learn more about other technical fields.
