5. Tutorials
A series of introductory lectures were offered on Sunday before the start of the technical sessions. These tutorial sessions are traditionally organized for newcomers to the field of ferroelectricity and feature issues of topical interests, including lectures on the phenomenology of piezoelectric and ferroelectric response, theory and modeling, advance piezoresponse force microscopy modes, and piezoelectric MEMS. Specifically, the following topics were covered:

  • Fundamentals of Ferroelectrics and Piezoelectrics by David Cann
  • Principles and Applications of Piezoresponse Force Microscopy by Alexei Gruverman
  • First principles methods by Craig Fennie
  • Phenomenology of ferroelectrics by George Rosetti
  • Advanced Piezoresponse Force Microscopy Modes including acoustic and ultrasonic applications by Sergei Kalinin
  • Visualization and Manipulation of Electric Polarization and Charges using Atomic Force Microscopy by Seungbum Hong
  • Piezoelectric thin films by Isaku Kanno
  • Piezoelectric materials for MEMS applications by Paul Muralt
