3. Ferroelectric Awards
Ferroelectric awards and recognitions were also presented in the opening session of July 23.

The 2013 Ferroelectrics Young Investigator Award
The Ferroelectrics Young Investigator Award recognizes scientists/engineers, 40 years of age or younger, for their contributions to fundamental research, integration, application, or education in Ferroelectrics. The 2012 Ferroelectrics Young Investigator Award was presented to Prof. Nazanin Bassiri-Gharb, an assistant professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA for her contributions in the field of piezoelectric films, as well as service to the IEEE UFFC society.

The 2013 Ferroelectrics Recognition Award
The Ferroelectrics Recognition Award is presented annually to honor a member of the Ferroelectrics for his/her outstanding achievements in scientific work as well as in promoting the Ferroelectrics Community. The 2013 Recognition Award was presented to Prof. Kenji Uchino, Office of Naval Research Global-Asia program manager and professor at the Pennsylvania State University (USA), for his contributions in electrostrictive ceramics, multilayer piezoelectric actuators, high electromechanical relaxor single crystals, magnetoelectric devices, and piezoelectric loss characterization methodology.

Additionally, Professor Takaaki Tsurumi from Tokyo Institute of Technology has been selected as the IEEE UFFC-S Distinguished Lecturer for 2014-2015 on “Frequency and Field-intensity Dependence of Dielectric and Piezoelectric Responses of Oxide Ferroelectrics”. Congratulations Tsurumi sensei!

IEEE UFFC-S President Jackie Hines, Distinguished Lecture awardee Takaaki Tsurumi, and 2013 Joint IEEE IUS-ISAF-IFCS General Chair Ahmad Safari
