RoboCup, IEEE Robotics and Automation Technical Committee on

RoboCup is an international scientific initiative with the goal to advance the state of the art of intelligent robots. When established in 1997, the original mission was to field a team of robots capable of winning against the human soccer World Cup champions by 2050. While that mission remains, RoboCup has since expanded into other relevant application domains based on the needs of modern society. Today, RoboCup covers the themes of robot soccer, personal service robotics in living spaces, manipulation and manufacturing at work, and rescue robotics. In addition, RoboCupJunior is a project-oriented educational initiative that sponsors local, regional, and international robotic events for young students. It is designed to introduce RoboCup to primary and secondary school children.

The main purpose of the IEEE RAS Technical Committee on RoboCup is to further share the challenges pursued by RoboCup researchers with the RAS community. The TC on RoboCup plays a role as a bridge connecting robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) communities, and another with the existing related TCs by promoting soccer, rescue and at home competitions.
