TechEthics Community, IEEE

The IEEE TechEthics program drives and coordinates institute-wide activities in technology ethics, reinforcing IEEE's role as a thought leader and trusted source of information about the ethical and societal implications of technology.

The objectives of the program are to:

  • Serve as a central, trusted resource/brand on technology ethics for industry professionals, policymakers, academics, the general public and other audiences
  • Drive robust discussion, debate and conversation about ethics and the societal implications of technology across all technical areas
  • Consider differences (cultural, philosophical, regional, etc.) in these conversations
  • Partner across IEEE and with outside parties to build mutually supportive relationships, coordinate activities, ensure full coverage of all possible voices, and capture the various opinions and trends
  • Develop, curate and disseminate content (videos, papers, educational material, etc.) in support of the ongoing conversation around the ethical implications of technology
  • Introduce frameworks that explicitly consider critical, non-technical dimensions of technology ethics
  • When applicable, inform consensus-building and standards development efforts
  • Empower the technical community to implement methodologies and products resulting from our consensus-building efforts, with an eye toward delivering values-driven, ethical innovation that will define the modern marketplace
  • Inform educational efforts aimed at the profession and other key stakeholders Program partners include IEEE Societies/Technical Councils, IEEE Standards Association, IEEE-USA, IEEE Educational Activities, and others.
In addition, as a participant of this Community, you will receive communications about networking opportunities, conferences, meetings, special events, other member benefits, and more.
