The toolkit below is designed to support IEEE volunteers in their efforts to manage organizational unit (OU) initiatives toward advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), as well as embed DEI into ongoing IEEE activities.

Initiatives and activities may impact members, those involved in OU activities, technical professionals, and/or the general public served through IEEE’s mission.

The Diversity & Inclusion Committee wants your feedback on tools, resources, and best practices that are available, as well as additional resources that would be most valuable to you.

Building Your OU’s DEI Strategic Plan & Resources

Strategic Planning

The current strategic plan for the IEEE Diversity & Inclusion Committee may be found here:

> Diversity & Inclusion Committee Strategic Plan: This may serve as a model for your OU’s strategic planning, in thinking about how your efforts tie back to the overarching plan.

OU Resource Guides

In addition to the broader resources found in this toolkit, you may also begin building resources that are relevant to your OU and the specific aspects of DEI that impact your work. In this case, you may consider building a resource guide for your OU.

One example of how this can be accomplished is found here:

Best Practices for Awards: Eligibility for Leave Time (PDF, 293 KB)
This best practice outlines language to include in award eligibility requirements for nominees who may have gaps in their resumes due to personal circumstances. This best practice is applicable to all IEEE awards.

> IEEE Technical Activities Committee on Diversity & Inclusion Resources

Given the sensitive nature of these resources, please secure the resources for volunteer and staff use only.

Case Studies in DEI Growth for OUs

The IEEE Diversity Report provides an overview of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee Activities, as well as the activities from each OU, including case studies.

The following examples may serve as inspiration for DEI work within OUs. These case studies provide an opportunity for learning and knowledge share among the IEEE volunteer community.

> Pride in Photonics Best Practices Videos

> IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society
