Position descriptions, qualifications, and time commitments

Each position has specific responsibilities, qualifications, and time commitments.

A candidate without specific experience in a position may be considered if highly qualified and can demonstrate an ability and willingness to learn.

Prior work in IEEE is important but does not outweigh ability. Equivalent experience outside IEEE is considered.

Who can nominate

Anyone may submit a nomination; you do not need to be an IEEE member to submit a nomination.

Self-nominations are permitted and encouraged.

IEEE Organizational Units may submit recommendations if the governing body or its designee has endorsed the candidate.

How to nominate

1. Review the position description for qualifications and eligibility requirements.

2. Fill out the nomination form.

Nominators do not need to contact the nominee prior to submitting the form. IEEE N&A will contact eligible nominees for their interest and required documentation.

A person may be nominated for more than one position; however, specific qualifications must be provided for each position.

Documentation required

Nominees must provide:

  • Confirmation of willingness and ability to serve
  • Biography
  • Photo (digital format in TIF or high-quality JPEG)

Nominations that do not have the required information will not be considered.

Nominators must provide:

The nominations made public are:

  • Individuals recommended to the IEEE Assembly for IEEE Officer positions
  • President-Elect candidates selected by the IEEE Board of Directors for the IEEE Annual Election

Individuals nominated and considered by IEEE N&A for membership on an IEEE Committee are not disclosed unless appointed by the IEEE Board of Directors.

The identity of the nominator is not disclosed to the nominee by IEEE N&A.

Status of your nomination

A nomination does not guarantee either a recommendation by the IEEE N&A Committee or an appointment by the IEEE Board of Directors.

Committee Chairs and Members

All nominees are contacted after the Board of Directors meeting at which the appointments were made. Notifications are sent typically within a week of the meeting.

Appointments are typically made in November for all committee positions.

All nominees are advised, before the IEEE Assembly Election slate is made public, if they have or have not been recommended to the IEEE Assembly. Notifications are typically in October.

All nominees on the IEEE Assembly Election slate are notified of the election results immediately following the election. The election typically is in November.

President-Elect

All nominees are advised if they have or have not been recommended by IEEE N&A to the IEEE Board of Directors. Notifications are typically in October.
