Publishing Technologies provides a variety of resources, including tools and specifications for vendors, Societies, IEEE staff, or other entities for submitting publications for processing.

Publishing Technologies also disseminates publishing data and content PDF, metadata to Data Customers, Indexing Partners, Discovery Services, and Government Agencies.

Overview

We provide specifications and information on:

1.      IEEE Xplore® compatible PDFs

2.      Packing lists

3.      IEEE Content Delivery XML

4.      JATS references

5.      Supplemental material or multimedia

In addition to providing the necessary specifications, this page contains configuration files, DTDs and schemas, and sample files.

Contains the IEEE PDF Specification which describes the requirements for IEEE Xplore compatible PDF files. Also included are Acrobat Distiller Settings and PitStop Profiles. IEEE uses PitStop for quality control purposes.

Packing list tools

Packing Lists are required if compatible XML is not available. In this case the Packing List Generator (PLG) should be used to create a packing list. The Packing List Checker is another tool available to validate a packing list when instructed by IEEE.

XML submission to IEEE

Submitting Conferences, Journals, and Standards

IEEE has created an XML schema for capturing metadata about the articles in a conference, journal, and for standards. We provide the schema, XML samples, and complete delivery samples (XML, PDFs, and supplemental material).

Submitting Books
Books are submitted using ONIX (version 3.x or later with reference/long tags) for the Book level data. If individual Chapters are included in the delivery, it must be provided in the idams_exchange schema. Documentation and samples are provided below.

Submission of JATS References
For conference, journals/magazines, and standards, we also accept citations (references) in the JATS format.

For PDF requirements please refer to IEEE PDF Specification for IEEE Xplore (ZIP, 936 KB)

Multimedia and supplemental material documentation and tools

IEEE supports submission of Multimedia and Supplemental Material. This section details the requirements for the two options supported.

Data distribution from IEEE

IEEE also distributes data using its own DTD to data customers, indexing partners, discovery services, and government agencies. Documentation and examples are provided for journals/magazines, conferences, standards, and books.
